Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization since 1951, facilitates humane and orderly migration. Movement Operations is a core function, managed by units in country offices and coordinated by the Resettlement and Movement Management Division. This role supports the organized movement of persons requiring international migration assistance.
Job Purpose
This role provides essential field support for IOM's Movement Operations, a fundamental pillar of the organization's mandate. The purpose is to ensure the smooth and efficient execution of travel arrangements for migrants and refugees under IOM's auspices. This involves direct assistance at transit centers and airports, coordination of transportation, and meticulous data management. By supporting these critical operations, the role contributes to IOM's overarching goal of promoting humane and orderly migration, ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of individuals throughout their journey in accordance with international agreements and organizational standards.
Responsibilities
Provide direct assistance to migrants at transit centers and airports, including arrival support, identity verification, and orientation. Coordinate transportation activities, liaising with service providers and ensuring readiness of individuals. Manage data entry and updates in relevant systems, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy. Offer interpretation services as needed. Escort individuals during transport and assist with baggage handling. Ensure vulnerable individuals receive appropriate support and report any issues promptly to supervisors. Maintain integrity of paperwork and alert management to any non-compliance with SOPs or codes of conduct. Perform other assigned duties to support field operations.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive, relevant professional experience is required, preferably within a UN agency, INGO, or NGO. Prior experience in Movement Operations, transportation, or management is a strong advantage. Experience in a multicultural environment is also required.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet usage. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team. Self-motivated with the capacity to work independently under tight deadlines. Demonstrated ability to maintain detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
