Eoi001/2026 Medical Escort
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Medical Escort (ME) to provide critical support during medical travel. The ME must uphold the highest ethical and professional standards, respecting beneficiary diversity. Flexibility is key due to potential itinerary changes. All escorts must comply with IOM, national, and airline regulations.
Job Purpose
The Medical Escort (ME) is responsible for ensuring the safe and ethical transport of beneficiaries requiring medical assistance. This role demands adherence to the highest professional standards, with a keen awareness of gender and socio-cultural differences. The ME must be adaptable to unforeseen changes in travel plans, including last-minute cancellations or itinerary adjustments. A critical aspect of the role involves maintaining compliance with all IOM guidelines, national laws, and airline regulations throughout the duration of duty travel. Furthermore, the ME is accountable for possessing and maintaining a valid passport, necessary visas, and a valid practicing license in their country of residence, providing copies to IOM prior to service.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities encompass comprehensive pre-departure preparations, including verifying travel documents (passport, visa, practicing license) and ensuring updated immunizations. This involves familiarizing with beneficiary medical files, coordinating with IOM medical teams and external specialists, and securing airline approval via MEDIF/MEDA forms. The ME must meticulously plan trip logistics, including flight details, layovers, and special travel arrangements, and agree upon a detailed Medical Escort Plan (MEP) with IOM. During movement, the ME will conduct fitness-to-travel checks, accompany beneficiaries, monitor their condition closely (at least every 4 hours), ensure adequate hydration, and administer medications as scheduled. In emergencies, the ME will provide immediate medical assistance and liaise with cabin crew and the captain. Post-arrival, the ME will ensure proper handover of the beneficiary to responsible parties, complete all required documentation, and submit reports and equipment to IOM within the stipulated timeframe. Continuous communication and availability for follow-up are also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of clinical experience is required. Valid certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are also necessary. Clinical specialization relevant to the beneficiary's medical profile is essential.
