Organizational Context
IOM, a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. This role supports a comprehensive protection program in Nigeria, funded by the EU and other governments, addressing challenges of irregular migration along the Central Mediterranean Route and improving reintegration assistance for returnees.
Job Purpose
This Project Assistant (AVM) role supports IOM's Migration Governance programme in Nigeria, focusing on protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants, including those returning to the country. The purpose is to contribute to the implementation and monitoring of protection interventions, capacity development for state actors, and support for rehabilitation and reintegration efforts. The role aims to enhance the security, dignity, and rights of migrants, and facilitate sustainable reintegration, enabling returnees to make informed migration decisions.
Responsibilities
The Project Assistant will support the implementation of project activities, including day-to-day operations and administrative processes, reporting on challenges and progress. Responsibilities include assisting with the monitoring of case management for vulnerable migrants, conducting screening interviews, and referrals. The role involves coordinating with stakeholders for family tracing, reunification, and reintegration support for unaccompanied and separated children and vulnerable adults. Additionally, the assistant will facilitate communication with relevant IOM units, support temporary shelter placement, monitor reintegration activities, and coordinate inter-agency forums to address protection needs of mobile populations.
Work Experience
Experience is preferred in migration management, protection, and/or GBV. A good knowledge of administrative procedures and experience liaising with government, international organizations, and private sector entities are beneficial. Familiarity with project management, international protection standards, and EU regulations is desirable. The ability to work under short timelines and support large groups of vulnerable migrants is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint). Strong analytical, organizational, and reporting skills. Working knowledge of Hausa language is required.
