Job Purpose
This consultancy focuses on the role of a SMAPS Manager (Gestor SMAPS) within IOM's humanitarian operations in Guatemala. The primary purpose is to conduct integral support activities, including case management and specialized team visits, to identify and monitor returned children. The role contributes to strengthening a comprehensive and collaborative protection strategy by assessing family vulnerabilities, providing psychological first aid, and referring individuals to relevant services. The consultant will gather and report crucial data to inform interventions and ensure the well-being of vulnerable migrant children.
Responsibilities
The SMAPS Manager will conduct coordinated visits to families of returned unaccompanied minors to identify vulnerabilities and support needs. This includes evaluating housing conditions, emotional climate, and caregiver-child interactions, as well as identifying psychosocial stressors and protective factors. The role involves providing psychological first aid, reinforcing family coping mechanisms, and explaining available project services. Responsibilities also include registering beneficiary information for a database, preparing qualitative and quantitative reports, and performing other project-related tasks under the coordinator's guidance. Key principles include a child rights approach, non-maleficence, confidentiality, and intercultural sensitivity.
Work Experience
A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required, specifically in identifying, analyzing, and diagnosing vulnerabilities and needs. Experience in data management, report writing, and conducting data collection through home visits or one-on-one sessions is essential. Experience with reintegration challenges for returned individuals, especially minors, is valued.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, excellent listening abilities, empathy, sensitivity, teamwork, work ethic, commitment to humanitarian issues, ability to handle emotional situations, flexibility, and adaptability are required. Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) is essential. English fluency is an advantage.
