Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ethiopia implements Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) projects. This Project Associate role supports the operational coordination and implementation of these projects, focusing on the regional counter-smuggling programme and other IBG initiatives. The position operates under the supervision of the Programme Officer and National Programme Officer, contributing to capacity-building activities and stakeholder engagement.
Job Purpose
The Project Associate (IBG) is responsible for supporting the operational coordination and implementation of Immigration and Border Governance (IBG) projects within Ethiopia. This includes a primary focus on the regional counter-smuggling programme and synergistic activities across the IBG portfolio. The role directly contributes to the effective delivery of capacity-building initiatives, such as trainings, workshops, and coordination meetings, with government counterparts. Key areas of support involve border governance, document examination, fraud detection, migration management, and referral procedures. The incumbent will ensure follow-up across multiple implementation sites and promote operational coherence with other IBG interventions, including legal identity, cross-border trade, and institutional strengthening efforts.
Responsibilities
The Project Associate will support the operational implementation of IBG projects, particularly the regional counter-smuggling programme in Ethiopia. This involves assisting in the organization, coordination, and follow-up of capacity development activities like trainings, workshops, and field activities. The role requires supporting coordination with government counterparts, including Immigration, Police, and Justice departments. The incumbent will contribute to capacity-building on border management, migration governance, and fraud detection. Logistical and operational follow-up for activities across various sites, including airports and land borders, will be managed. Progress tracking against workplans and deliverables, and contribution to the preparation of project materials, are key duties. Support for assessments, studies, and consultancies, along with maintaining communication with counterparts and tracking action points, is also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required for candidates with a university degree. Candidates with a school diploma require at least five years of relevant professional experience.
