Organizational Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN-related agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. It collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. This role is within the Migration Health Division/Radiology unit, supporting the Health Assessment Programme.

Job Purpose

This role is crucial for the IOM Health Assessment Programme, focusing on processing screening X-rays for refugees and immigrants. The Radiologic Technologist will operate under the direct supervision of the Senior Radiologic Technologist and receive technical guidance from the IOM Teleradiology Center. The primary purpose is to ensure high-quality radiological services are provided, contributing to the overall health assessment process for migrants. This involves accurate image acquisition, adherence to international standards, and effective communication within the health team to support the organization's mission of promoting orderly migration.

Responsibilities

Key duties include taking high-quality chest X-ray images according to IOM and international standards, explaining procedures to applicants, and preparing equipment. The technologist must apply proper radiographic techniques and radiation protection measures, including shielding for all individuals and specific precautions for pregnant women. Responsibilities also encompass performing digital image processing, reviewing image quality, and reporting urgent findings to radiologists. The role involves contributing to quality assurance for X-ray units, ensuring radiation safety, and maintaining equipment through regular checks and coordinating maintenance. Optimizing workflow, preparing worklists, uploading images, and generating statistical reports are also essential. Communication with radiologists and Teleradiology Centers for image interpretation and providing reports to panel physicians are critical functions.

Work Experience

Required experience includes radiography, particularly Chest X-Ray, and familiarity with digital radiology machines. An up-to-date professional license is necessary. Good computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and Word, are essential. Experience with radiology information systems and PACS is advantageous, as is prior experience in screening chest X-rays.
