Job Purpose

Responsibilities
The Regional Medical Officer is responsible for overseeing and validating comprehensive medical examination reports, including Entry on Duty, Periodic Medical Examinations, and fitness for duty assessments, ensuring strict compliance with IOM-OHU protocols and UN medical standards. This includes screening medical questionnaires and authorizing extended insurance coverage when medically justified. Clinical duties encompass providing walk-in consultations, emergency response, and follow-up care for staff, alongside delivering essential occupational health services such as immunizations and travel health kits. The role involves managing health insurance claims, collaborating with providers and internal units to resolve coverage gaps, and detecting potential fraud. Key responsibilities include implementing the regional Occupational Health Strategy, coordinating emergency medical support, and managing medical evacuations. The officer advises HR and senior management on medical standards for recruitment, sick leave, and travel, and actively participates in crisis preparedness planning. Furthermore, the incumbent implements health education programs, maintains organized and confidential medical records, and provides statistical insights to inform health policy development. The role also involves representing IOM in inter-agency health forums, maintaining partnerships with local healthcare providers, and acting as a focal point for regional health emergencies.
Work Experience
Seven years of post-doctorate experience in clinical medicine are required. At least three years of managerial or supervisory experience with clinical staff, along with general office administration experience, is also mandatory. Desirable experience includes occupational health, travel and tropical medicine, preventive medicine, medical evacuations, mental health, and crisis management. Experience in medical insurances and health claim analysis, knowledge of legal and ethical issues in occupational health, and liaison with international organizations and hospitals are considered assets.
