Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. The RE2CLID project aims to enhance the resilience of displacement-affected communities in Sub-Saharan Africa facing climate change and environmental degradation. This role supports the project's community engagement activities in Madagascar, working under the supervision of the Project Manager and Project Officer.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of community engagement activities for the RE2CLID project in Madagascar. The project focuses on enhancing the resilience and self-reliance of communities affected by displacement due to climate change and environmental degradation in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean countries. The Senior Project Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the RE2CLID Project Officer in Madagascar, collaborating with the SAIO Programme Coordinator and the IOM country team. The position requires active participation in coordinating and executing project initiatives aimed at community betterment and engagement.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities. Compile, analyze, and present data on project topics, highlighting key issues. Monitor budget implementation and suggest adjustments. Serve as a liaison for administrative coordination, interacting with internal units and external parties. Draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and propose corrective actions. Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions, including preparing materials and assisting with delivery. Respond to information requests and maintain project files. Participate in meetings and conferences, liaising with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders. Monitor implementing partners for compliance and report to the supervisor. Provide input for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and concept papers. Offer guidance and training to other staff, potentially supervising assigned personnel. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and IDPs. Prior experience in a multi-cultural setting with international humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Experience in monitoring and reporting on community engagement and training, supporting participatory assessments, and organizing community meetings and outreach activities.
Skills
Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills for building trust and relationships with diverse communities. Ability to coordinate with local stakeholders, NGOs, and government institutions. Competence in collecting, analyzing, and reporting community-level data. Skilled in communication and outreach, adapting messages to different cultural contexts.
