Job Purpose
The Regional Medical Officer's purpose is to ensure the health and well-being of IOM staff and their eligible dependents across the region. This is achieved through the provision of comprehensive occupational medical services, effective case management, diligent oversight of health insurance, and strategic health planning. The role involves close collaboration with various IOM departments, including OHU HQ and HR, as well as regional leadership and external health providers. A key aspect is contributing to policy development, enhancing emergency preparedness, and implementing health strategies to safeguard the workforce. The position also requires active engagement with other UN medical services, insurance administrators, and inter-agency health networks to maintain high standards of care and support.
Responsibilities
The Regional Medical Officer is responsible for overseeing medical examinations, including entry on duty, periodic, and driver fitness assessments, ensuring compliance with IOM protocols and assessing fitness for duty. They will conduct clinical duties, provide occupational health services like immunizations and travel health advice, and manage referrals. The role involves managing health insurance claims, collaborating to prevent fraud, and liaising with insurance providers. Responsibilities extend to implementing the regional Occupational Health Strategy, coordinating emergency medical support and evacuations, and providing pre-travel medical briefings. The incumbent will advise HR and management on medical standards, participate in crisis planning, and supervise medical clearances. Additionally, they will implement health education programs, manage medical supplies, maintain confidential records, and report on health trends. Engagement with stakeholders, representing IOM in health forums, and coordinating regional health emergency responses are also key duties.
Work Experience
Requires seven years of post-doctorate experience in clinical medicine. Experience in occupational health, travel medicine, preventive medicine, medical evacuations, mental health, and crisis management are advantageous. At least three years of supervisory experience with clinical staff and experience in medical insurance and claims analysis are desirable.
