Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related organization promoting humane and orderly migration. The Regional Responses to Climate Displacements in Sub-Saharan Africa (RE2CLID) project aims to enhance resilience for communities facing climate change and environmental degradation in Southern Africa and Indian Ocean countries, including Madagascar. This role supports the RE2CLID project's implementation in Madagascar.
Job Purpose
This Project Assistant role supports the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the Regional Responses to Climate Displacements in Sub-Saharan Africa (RE2CLID) project in Madagascar. The project's objective is to bolster the resilience and self-reliance of communities affected by disasters, climate change, and environmental degradation in Sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean nations. The position operates under the supervision of the Project Manager and Project Officer for RE2CLID in Madagascar, collaborating with regional coordinators and the in-country IOM team. The role is crucial for ensuring the effective delivery of project activities and contributing to the overall goals of enhancing community resilience in vulnerable regions.
Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including retrieving, compiling, and summarizing project-related information and data. Monitor project budgets, verify fund availability, obtain necessary approvals, and update budget information. Provide administrative coordination for project implementation, liaising with internal units and external parties to initiate requests and process administrative actions. Draft status reports, highlighting delivery shortfalls for supervisor attention. Prepare correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and other documentation. Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions. Respond to general inquiries and maintain project files and records. Perform other related duties as assigned to support project operations.
Work Experience
Experience is required in liaising with governmental authorities, international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and displaced persons is also necessary. Prior experience in multi-cultural settings with international organizations or NGOs is advantageous. Experience in assisting with logistics, organizing events, and collecting field data is beneficial.
