Job Purpose
This role serves as an AVR Case Manager and Psychosocial Support provider within IOM Costa Rica's Voluntary Assisted Return (AVR) program. The primary purpose is to offer comprehensive support to extra-regional migrants and other nationalities returning from the United States and other countries in the Americas. The position involves managing individual cases, providing essential psychosocial assistance, and facilitating the voluntary return process, ensuring beneficiaries are well-informed and supported throughout their journey. The role contributes to IOM's mission of promoting orderly migration and supporting migrants' well-being.
Responsibilities
Conduct pre-screening assessments and interviews to determine eligibility for Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) services and gather beneficiary needs. Maintain accurate records using MIMOSA, Kobo, and Excel systems. Provide ongoing follow-up and support throughout the AVR process, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders for successful return arrangements. Analyze cases to identify specific needs and challenges, facilitating appropriate interventions. Liaise with translators to ensure effective communication with migrants. Coordinate with IOM offices in countries of origin for return logistics and with Movements for travel arrangements. Provide airport support during departure. Offer psychological first aid (PFA) and emotional support, conducting psychosocial assessments and developing individualized support plans. Identify and refer beneficiaries with health needs to appropriate services, ensuring interagency coordination and case follow-up. Document all case management and psychosocial activities according to IOM guidelines and ethical standards. Conduct field visits as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of experience working with vulnerable populations is required. Previous experience in case management within humanitarian settings is essential. Experience in protection activities, coordinating with institutional and UN counterparts, and communicating with diverse cultural groups is advantageous. Fluency in English is mandatory (B2 level), with fluency in Spanish also required.
