National MHPSS Technical Expert (training Programme)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), established in 1951, is a UN agency dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. IOM Lebanon, within its MHPSS Unit/Protection Programme, is developing an academic training program focused on community-based mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in intersection with conflict transformation, dialogue, social cohesion, and integration within peace and recovery programs.
Job Purpose
This role contributes to enhancing individual and communal mental health and psychosocial well-being by mitigating conflict's psychological impacts and fostering social cohesion, peace, and recovery. The purpose is to prevent further distress and promote psychosocial well-being, supporting broader outcomes for peace and community recovery in post-conflict settings. The consultant will help design and deliver an academic training program in coordination with a national academic partner, aiming to build the capacity and knowledge of relevant professionals on psychosocial issues in conflict-stricken societies and displacement.
Responsibilities
The consultant will liaise with academic institutions, government bodies, and technical experts for the training program. Key duties include conducting desk reviews, designing the curriculum content on community-based MHPSS, conflict management, dialogue, and integration into peace/recovery programming, adhering to IOM and international guidelines. Responsibilities also encompass coordinating training activities, developing syllabi, organizing modules, ensuring implementation aligns with project objectives, and supporting smooth execution. The role involves translating technical documents, preparing clear reports on training activities, establishing monitoring and evaluation frameworks for training outcomes, and maintaining information systems. Additionally, the consultant will support the development of related MHPSS curricula and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant professional experience in mental health and psychosocial support, preferably in humanitarian, recovery, or development contexts, is required. Demonstrated experience working with universities, government institutions, and/or national authorities in Lebanon, along with strong networking skills with academic professionals, is also necessary.
Skills
Strong familiarity with community-based MHPSS, social cohesion, conflict transformation, and peacebuilding approaches. Experience in developing and delivering MHPSS trainings and conducting research studies for international organizations is beneficial. Experience with vulnerable groups is an advantage. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.
