Job Purpose
The Senior Protection Casework Associate (AVR) plays a crucial role in supporting IOM's global Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) program. This program facilitates safe, dignified, and consent-based returns for migrants and provides necessary post-arrival assistance. The associate will be instrumental in ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive appropriate support throughout the return process. This includes conducting screenings, managing cases, coordinating referrals, and maintaining accurate records. The position contributes directly to the well-being and successful reintegration of migrants, upholding IOM's commitment to humanitarian principles and migrant protection standards within the specific context of the Marshall Islands.
Responsibilities
Conduct individual protection screenings for migrants, identifying specific needs such as GBV, human trafficking, child protection, or health issues, and assist in case plan preparation. Provide comprehensive case management services, including follow-up, monitoring service delivery, and coordinating referrals to specialized services like legal, health, and psychosocial support. Facilitate safe and dignified post-arrival assistance, ensuring privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent, while coordinating with government authorities. Communicate effectively with beneficiaries, explaining available assistance and providing clear, culturally appropriate information. Maintain accurate data collection and case notes in IOM’s systems, adhering to data protection standards. Coordinate with internal teams and external partners (NGOs, UN agencies, government) to enhance referral networks and service provision. Prepare reports, contribute to protection assessments, and monitor project indicators. Undertake duty travel for field visits and service monitoring. Assist migrants with specific protection needs, such as asylum seekers, potential victims of trafficking, or unaccompanied minors, by facilitating referrals and follow-up.
Work Experience
Familiarity with protection case management in humanitarian or migration contexts, including for vulnerable groups like GBV survivors, trafficking victims, and at-risk children. Experience working with vulnerable individuals, particularly returnees, is advantageous. Experience in coordinating referrals and collaborating with local protection actors, NGOs, and government services is also beneficial.
