Communication Assistant
Organizational Context
Established in 1951, IOM is a UN-related organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration. As the leading UN agency in migration, it collaborates with governmental and non-governmental partners, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. This role supports the Media and Communication Unit (MCU) in IOM Italy, contributing to internal and external communication activities under the supervision of the Senior Public Information Associate.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to assist the Media and Communication Unit (MCU) in IOM Italy with the implementation of Public Information activities, contributing to both internal and external communication efforts. The incumbent will support the Senior Public Information Associate in executing communication strategies, managing social media channels, and developing informational materials. This position plays a key role in enhancing IOM's visibility and disseminating information about its activities and migration-related issues, particularly within the Mediterranean context. The role contributes to IOM's overall mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by ensuring effective communication and outreach.
Responsibilities
Assist the Media and Communication Unit (MCU) and Senior Public Information Associate in implementing Public Information activities and social media plans, tracking performance indicators, and maintaining IOM Italy’s social media channels. Support the drafting and updating of editorial plans, compile data on communication activities, and prepare reports. Provide administrative coordination for information campaigns and assist in the preparation and dissemination of public information materials, including TV/Radio spots and public announcements. Support the production of printed and digital materials, and assist in drafting or translating content in English and Italian. Facilitate internal communication within IOM Italy and with other offices. Help organize public information activities to promote project visibility and assist in preparing and publishing social media content, including videos and graphics. Compile media monitoring summaries and background information for communication materials, and support the preparation of talking points and routine media query responses.
Work Experience
Requires good organizational, communication, drafting, writing, and reporting skills. Experience in web and social media content creation, basic content planning, video editing, and creating graphic content is necessary.
Skills
Good knowledge of migration dynamics in the Mediterranean. Familiarity with international organization communication practices. Experience in preparing newsletters, data tables, notes for the file, and media monitoring reports. Experience supporting internal communication and liaising with colleagues. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365. Knowledge of graphic and communication tools (Adobe, Canva, CapCut, Mailchimp). Ability to work effectively in diverse teams, manage time efficiently, and work under pressure.
