Protection Assistant (data)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) promotes humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. This role is part of the COMPASS Initiative, funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The position operates within the IOM Mission in Mali, under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer and in coordination with the protection unit and other departments, including monitoring and evaluation.
Job Purpose
This role supports the IOM's mission to promote humane and orderly migration, specifically within the COMPASS Initiative focused on cooperation and sustainable solutions. The Protection Assistant (Data) will work under the direct supervision of the Protection Officer, collaborating closely with the protection unit and other departments within the IOM Mission in Mali. Key contributions involve ensuring the quality and integrity of protection data, supporting data analysis, and contributing to reporting efforts to inform protection interventions and strategies. The role is crucial for maintaining accurate records and facilitating evidence-based decision-making within the protection program.
Responsibilities
Maintain data quality in databases and tracking tools, ensuring regular updates and adherence to organizational standards. Support data cleaning processes in collaboration with the senior reporting assistant, applying established criteria and developing tools for improvement. Liaise with field supervisors to resolve data inconsistencies, proposing solutions and ensuring corrections are made. Assist in producing consolidated monthly protection data reports, including visualizations, trends, and preliminary recommendations for the protection unit and partners. Participate in data analysis to identify trends and gaps, contributing to recommendations for protection interventions. Respond to internal and external data-related requests, maintaining traceability, confidentiality, and relevance of shared information. Support training and capacity building for field colleagues on data collection and management tools. Perform other assigned tasks by supervisors.
Work Experience
Proven experience in data collection and information management. Experience with case management approaches and institutional tools is beneficial. Familiarity with database management tools and data cleaning techniques is required. Experience coordinating with field teams and in data analysis/visualization (e.g., Power BI) is an asset.
