Organizational Context

IOM Cyprus is establishing an Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Hub to offer temporary accommodation and pre-departure support for migrants returning voluntarily, particularly vulnerable individuals and families. The Hub will coordinate with IOM units, national authorities, and partners to ensure rights, address needs, and facilitate dignified departures, operating in close alignment with IOM policies and procedures.

Job Purpose

This role serves as a Cultural Mediator (French) within the IOM Cyprus Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Hub. The primary purpose is to facilitate effective communication and understanding between IOM staff and migrants preparing for voluntary return. This involves providing crucial interpretation and cultural mediation services during various interactions, including individual and group sessions, and supporting the translation of essential information materials. The role is vital for ensuring beneficiaries' rights are protected, their specific needs are addressed, and their departures are managed in a timely and dignified manner, contributing directly to the successful operation of the AVR program and upholding IOM's commitment to humane and orderly migration.

Responsibilities

The Cultural Mediator will provide interpretation and cultural mediation to ensure effective communication between IOM staff and beneficiaries during sessions and activities. This includes maintaining professional confidentiality and fostering positive relationships with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and humanitarian actors to support project implementation and coordination. The role involves translating information materials and documents for beneficiaries, facilitating communication through interpretation and/or translation in a language understood by the beneficiaries, and performing other assigned duties. The mediator will act objectively and impartially to bridge communication gaps and support the overall objectives of the AVR Hub.

Work Experience

Previous experience in a similar role is required. Experience working in a multicultural environment is preferred. Computer literacy in standard software applications and a valid driver's license are also necessary.
