IOM Cyprus is establishing an Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Hub to offer temporary accommodation and pre-departure support for migrants returning voluntarily to their countries of origin. Job Purpose
The Cultural Mediator (Arabic) plays a crucial role in facilitating communication and understanding between IOM staff and migrants within the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Hub. This position is essential for ensuring effective support and dignified departures for individuals and families preparing to return to their home countries. By providing accurate interpretation and cultural insights, the mediator helps address specific needs, supports the completion of pre-departure procedures, and fosters trust and cooperation. The role contributes directly to the successful implementation of IOM's AVR program in Cyprus, upholding humanitarian principles and safeguarding beneficiaries' rights throughout their journey.
Responsibilities
Provide interpretation and cultural mediation services to ensure effective communication between IOM staff and beneficiaries during sessions and activities. Maintain professional confidentiality at all times. Develop and nurture positive relationships with beneficiaries, stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors to facilitate project implementation and coordination. Assist in translating information materials and documents for use with beneficiaries. Facilitate communication through interpretation and/or translation in languages understood by beneficiaries, ensuring objectivity and impartiality. Perform other assigned duties as required to support the AVR Hub's operations.
Work Experience
Previous experience in a similar role is required. Experience working in a multicultural environment is preferred. A valid driver's license is also required. Candidates should possess adequate knowledge, education, and training to perform the essential functions of the position.
