Senior Project Assistant - Communications
Organizational Context

As the leading UN agency in migration, it collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners, providing services and advice to governments and migrants. This role supports the Media and Communications Unit, contributing to creative communication strategies.
Job Purpose
The Senior Project Assistant - Communications will provide essential support to the Media and Communications Unit within IOM Brazil. The primary purpose of this role is to contribute to the effective implementation of creative communication strategies designed to enhance IOM's visibility and impact. By assisting in the development and execution of communication initiatives, the incumbent will help to robustly position the organization as a leader in the protection and assistance of migrants. This involves supporting various communication activities that highlight IOM's work, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and donor requirements, and ultimately reinforcing IOM's mandate in Brazil.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting in the design and implementation of IOM's Brazil communications strategy and campaigns, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and donor visibility. The role involves producing various written communication materials such as press releases, articles, stories, and newsletters to highlight IOM's activities and results. Support for crisis communication efforts, including rapid content development, is also required. The position entails managing IOM Brazil's social media presence, monitoring media coverage and social media performance, and contributing to reports and analytics. Additionally, the assistant will ensure timely dissemination of materials via the IOM website and other channels, assist with translations and reviews, support event coverage, and provide administrative and logistical support to the Communications Unit.
Work Experience
Required experience includes proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and MailChimp. Experience working in diverse teams, media monitoring, research, and fact-checking is essential. Experience in organizing communication coverage for events and supporting communication units within international organizations is advantageous. Experience in emergency or crisis communication contexts is a plus.
Skills
Essential skills include excellent writing, editing, and proofreading abilities, strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and deadlines, and good knowledge of social media management tools and content planning. The ability to synthesize complex information, strong research and analytical skills, and good interpersonal communication skills are also crucial. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, with familiarity in design and content tools being an advantage.
