MHPSS Psychosocial Worker Consultant (zaporizhzhia)

Organizational Context

IOM Ukraine implements a large-scale community-based MHPSS program to assist affected populations. The consultant will support the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Unit within the Response, Recovery, Resilience (3R) department. This role focuses on direct community engagement and needs assessment in Zaporizhzhia city.

Job Purpose

The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker Consultant will directly contribute to IOM Ukraine's community-based MHPSS program by conducting awareness-raising activities for veterans, their families, and vulnerable groups in Zaporizhzhia. The role involves delivering information sessions to healthcare facility staff, assessing MHPSS needs through interviews and focus groups, and providing community-level MHPSS services based on identified needs. This position is crucial for enhancing psychosocial support within the affected population and supporting veteran-focused interventions.

Responsibilities

Conduct community-based awareness-raising sessions on MHPSS for veterans, families, and vulnerable groups, ensuring psychoeducation and information on available services. Deliver structured information sessions on MHPSS and basic psychosocial support to healthcare facility staff. Perform key informant interviews and focus group discussions to assess MHPSS needs, barriers, and service gaps, then present findings to the MHPSS team. Provide basic individual and/or group psychosocial support services at the community level, adhering to IASC pyramid levels 1-3. Ensure timely data entry and reporting of all activities within 24 hours, maintaining proper documentation. Coordinate closely with the Senior MHPSS Associate to align activities with IOM standards and programme priorities, particularly supporting veteran interventions.

Work Experience

Requires at least 2 years of relevant experience, including delivering MHPSS or psychosocial support services, preferably to conflict-affected populations like veterans and their families. Experience in facilitating group sessions, awareness-raising activities, and basic needs assessments (FGDs, KIIs) is advantageous. Basic reporting and data collection skills are necessary.
