Organizational Context

IOM, a UN-related organization since 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. In Greece, under the 'Helios+' project, IOM collaborates with authorities and partners to integrate third-country nationals into the labor market. This role supports project activities in East Macedonia and Thrace, focusing on employability, language courses, and social cohesion.

Job Purpose

This role provides essential interpretation and translation services to support the implementation of the 'Helios+' project in Greece. The primary purpose is to facilitate communication and understanding between IOM staff, beneficiaries, and relevant stakeholders, ensuring effective project delivery. By bridging language barriers, the interpreter will contribute to the successful integration of beneficiaries of international and temporary protection into Greek society. This includes supporting employability initiatives, language training, and other integration activities, thereby promoting humane and orderly migration.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include establishing initial contact with beneficiaries, building trust, and providing interpretation and cultural mediation. The role involves managing calls for the project's helpline, identifying emerging issues, reporting them, and maintaining call records. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with beneficiaries and stakeholders is crucial for effective project coordination. The interpreter will also translate documents, assist in mediation activities impartially, and provide general support to project staff during various activities. Identifying barriers to service access for beneficiaries is another important duty.

Work Experience

Previous experience in a similar interpreter role is required. Experience working within a multicultural environment is preferred, contributing to effective communication and understanding in diverse settings.

Skills

Proficiency in Ukrainian and English (written and oral) is essential. Computer literacy in standard applications is necessary. Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles are expected. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
