Job Purpose
The Senior Programme Assistant supports the Transition and Recovery Division by providing crucial programme and operational assistance for shelter and community infrastructure projects. This involves close coordination with national project officers, programme units, community-based organizations, local authorities, and implementing partners to ensure integrated, conflict-sensitive, and responsive programme delivery. The role contributes to assessments, monitoring, reporting, and capacity building of local stakeholders, ensuring interventions align with organizational standards and effectively meet community needs. The position plays a key part in the successful planning, implementation, and reporting of vital humanitarian and development initiatives within the region, fostering accountability and sustainable outcomes.
Responsibilities
Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of shelter and community infrastructure activities through systematic information management and work plan development. Monitor project progress, document lessons learned, and facilitate communication with stakeholders. Assist in site identification, community engagement, and needs assessments, ensuring inclusive participation of vulnerable groups. Contribute to reporting, budget tracking, and resource utilization monitoring. Ensure adherence to organizational standards, including accountability, inclusion, and safeguards. Support capacity building initiatives for local stakeholders and community-based organizations. Conduct field monitoring visits to observe implementation and gather feedback. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government institutions, preferably within UN systems. Proven experience in project implementation, coordination, and monitoring, particularly in shelter or community infrastructure. Experience in field assessments, community engagement, and working with local stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with reporting and financial tracking processes is also required.
Skills
Strong communication and organizational skills for reporting and record-keeping. Basic knowledge of project management and M&E concepts. Good coordination and interpersonal skills for diverse stakeholder engagement. Ability to work independently and in a team. Capacity to manage multiple tasks under pressure. Demonstrated responsibility, initiative, and sound judgment. Proficient in MS Office applications.
