Project Assistant (pxd/AVRR) - Lagos, Abuja, Benin City & Kano (temporary)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a UN-related agency promoting humane and orderly migration. The Migration Governance programme focuses on protecting vulnerable migrants, counter-trafficking, and assisting voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR). This role supports AVRR interventions, aiming to strengthen local capacities for improved rehabilitation and reintegration services.
Job Purpose
This Project Assistant role supports the implementation and monitoring of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) interventions within IOM's Migration Governance programme. The primary purpose is to strengthen the capacities of local actors, particularly at the state level, to deliver enhanced rehabilitation and reintegration support services to returning migrants. The position contributes to IOM's broader mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration by ensuring that returnees receive comprehensive assistance, enabling them to achieve economic self-sufficiency, social stability, and psychosocial well-being, thereby making future migration decisions a matter of choice rather than necessity.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day support for reintegration projects using rights-based approaches. Offer rehabilitation and reintegration assistance to returned migrants, including documentation and case management. Furnish technical and administrative support to state and non-state actors involved in reintegration services. Liaise with governmental, non-governmental, and international organizations to foster partnerships and assist migrants. Distribute financial assistance to returning migrants as appropriate. Monitor beneficiaries' business plans and project implementation through field visits. Assist in developing beneficiary assessment formats and maintain a database of beneficiary information. Collect and prepare data for monitoring reports and assist in information exchange with counterparts. Facilitate data entry for returning migrants into relevant databases and support monitoring of reintegration activities. Contribute to assessing the impact of grants and community projects. Undertake duty travel as required and perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Experience working with migrants, particularly in the socio-economic reintegration of returnees, is essential. Familiarity with programmatic issues related to return, reintegration, and migration management is required. Knowledge of social development and migration issues within the country and region is beneficial. Proven experience in building partnerships with donors, government authorities, private sector entities, and NGOs is necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, SharePoint). Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with effective prioritization.
