Junior Project Assistant (protection) - Boa Vista
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. This role is based in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil, and operates under the Chief of Mission and Senior Emergency Coordinator, with direct supervision from the Senior Protection Associate for North Brazil. The position supports the Protection Unit's activities.
Job Purpose
This role provides essential support to the Protection Unit's activities in Boa Vista, Roraima, focusing on the protection of migrants. The incumbent will assist in planning, implementing, and monitoring various protection initiatives, including those related to Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Child Protection, Trafficking in Persons (TIP), and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS). The position contributes to ensuring that protection aspects are integrated into IOM's broader operations and assessments, and supports capacity-building efforts for stakeholders. The role also involves participating in protection working groups and liaising with partners to coordinate and execute protection-related activities, ultimately contributing to the well-being and safety of vulnerable migrants.
Responsibilities
Support the Senior Protection Associate in planning, implementing, and monitoring administrative, financial, and operational protection activities for migrants in Roraima, covering GBV, Child Protection, TIP, and MHPSS, in line with IOM policies. Assist in conducting protection needs assessments, focusing on identification, assistance, and referral of victims of trafficking and GBV, and strengthening SOPs. Ensure protection aspects are integrated into IOM evaluations and coordinate analysis with staff and partners. Prepare and facilitate capacity-building sessions for local authorities, service providers, and IOM staff on protection themes. Support protection activities within the Relocation Strategy, including escorting protection cases. Monitor and report on protection activities, adhering to data protection principles. Represent IOM in protection working groups and meetings, liaising with local authorities, stakeholders, and UN agencies to plan and execute activities.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, including specific experience with the protection of migrants. A strong understanding of migration law, refugee law, TIP law, and related jurisprudence is also necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills. Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Experience collaborating within diverse, multicultural teams.
