The program focuses on delivering critical support near frontline areas and in transit centers for individuals and families affected by war and displacement. Interventions adhere to IOM's global standards for community-based MHPSS in emergencies, prioritizing rapid support to reduce distress and strengthen resilience.
Job Purpose
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker will provide essential mental health and psychosocial support services in high-risk and transit locations within Ukraine, addressing the urgent needs of individuals and families displaced by conflict. This role is crucial for delivering lifesaving interventions, including psychological first aid, counselling, and referrals, to mitigate psychological distress and enhance coping mechanisms. By working within mobile psychosocial teams, the worker will ensure accessible and responsive support, contributing to the overall resilience and well-being of affected populations during the acute emergency phase and supporting preparedness for future crises. The position aims to bridge the gap in essential psychosocial care within a strained health system.
Responsibilities
The MHPSS Psychosocial Worker is responsible for delivering emergency mental health and psychosocial support services in frontline areas and transit centers. Key duties include providing psychological first aid, individual and group counselling, and facilitating referrals to essential services for individuals experiencing acute distress. The role involves identifying and prioritizing vulnerable beneficiaries based on humanitarian criteria, conducting rapid MHPSS needs assessments, and collecting data to inform service delivery. The worker will also support community-based creative and cultural activities in coordination with local partners and ensure accurate reporting and documentation of all activities. Frequent travel to frontline and transit locations across Ukraine is expected.
Work Experience
At least two years of relevant working experience is required. Proven experience in MHPSS work, teamwork, and humanitarian operations, particularly in emergency settings near frontline areas and transit centers, is essential. Experience in proactive local engagement and innovative approaches in challenging environments is a significant asset.
