Senior Accounting Compliance Associate (2 Positions) - Expedited Recuitment
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN-related organization established in 1951, promotes humane and orderly migration. This role is part of the Panama Institutional Financial Services (PIFS) team, reporting to the National Accounting and Financial Compliance Officer. The position supports compliance with IOM's accounting regulations, rules, policies, and procedures.
Job Purpose
This role is responsible for reviewing project financial reporting and providing essential support and guidance on accounting, financial, and project-related matters to various offices. The primary objective is to ensure adherence to IOM's comprehensive accounting regulations, rules, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will contribute to the effective financial management and compliance of IOM's operations, ensuring accuracy and integrity in financial reporting. This position plays a key part in maintaining financial accountability and supporting the organization's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include providing accounting and financial guidance to Country Offices, evaluating their financial performance, and escalating critical issues. The role involves reviewing and analyzing trial balances, monitoring transaction processing in the ERP system, and identifying/recommending corrective actions for exceptions and deviations. The incumbent will also assess financial risks of Country Offices, monitor compliance reviews, and analyze month-end closing procedures, assisting with account clearance and payroll posting. Additionally, responsibilities include providing training on IOM accounting and ERP systems, resolving technical issues, and maintaining documentation for reviews.
Work Experience
Required experience includes sound knowledge of ERP accounting systems (e.g., SAP/Oracle), generally accepted accounting principles (IPSAS/IFRS), and internal controls. Experience in audit is advantageous. Proficiency in MS Office applications is also required.
