The Communications Associate in Algeria supports the Chief of Mission and Communications Officer, working with programme teams to enhance the mission's communication and visibility efforts.
Job Purpose
The Communications Associate supports IOM Algeria's communication and visibility activities, particularly in the context of expanding programmes and increased donor engagement. The role is crucial for documenting, packaging, and communicating programme results, partnerships, and impact effectively and consistently. This position will assist in content development, digital engagement, visual documentation, and internal coordination to boost institutional visibility and ensure adherence to IOM's global communication standards and donor requirements. The aim is to enhance the organization's public profile and demonstrate its contributions to migration management and humanitarian efforts.
Responsibilities
The role involves strategic content development, including assisting in the creation of human-interest stories, beneficiary testimonials, and impact narratives. Responsibilities include identifying field stories, drafting web content and articles, and packaging communication materials around key themes. The associate will manage and update social media platforms, maintain a content pipeline, and draft social media posts aligned with IOM's tone and donor requirements. Additionally, the role supports visual documentation through photography and videography, maintains an archive of visual assets, and creates visual products using approved templates. The associate also assists in preparing communication inputs for presentations, supports internal coordination on communication activities, and reviews materials for brand consistency and quality assurance.
Work Experience
Required experience includes journalism, media, and public information/communications work, preferably within the development and humanitarian sector. Experience in preparing publications and promotional materials like newsletters and infographics is advantageous. Supporting coverage of public events, contributing to human-interest stories, photo essays, and video stories is also beneficial. Familiarity with publishing content on social media platforms is necessary.
Skills
Excellent writing and editing skills for news releases, human-interest stories, and speeches. Proven photography and videography skills. Experience managing social media accounts for reputable organizations. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Premier Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom, Audition, Illustrator, InDesign) is an asset.
