The IOM's Migration Health Division (MHD) oversees global migration health services. Its Migration Health Informatics (MHI) unit drives digital transformation and advanced analytics for the Health Assessment Programme (HAP). This Senior Migration Health Informatics Associate (AI) role supports the effective, safe, and ethical integration of AI into HAP medical workflows, enhancing data management and quality assurance.
Job Purpose
The Senior Migration Health Informatics Associate (AI) plays a crucial role in advancing the digital transformation of IOM's Health Assessment Programme (HAP) by ensuring the effective, safe, and ethical integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. This position strengthens data management, analytics, and quality assurance within HAP medical workflows globally. The associate will support applied AI projects, fostering innovation and operational efficiency across various initiatives, including feedback sentiment analysis, health chatbots, clinical coding aids, diagnosis recommendations, and Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) for tuberculosis screening. The role involves assisting in the review and implementation of AI technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and specialized AI stacks, collaborating closely with the Migration Health Informatics Manager and the AI Work Group. Ultimately, this position contributes to enhancing migrants' health and well-being by leveraging advanced informatics to improve health service delivery and public health outcomes.
Responsibilities
The Senior Migration Health Informatics Associate (AI) will primarily support the implementation and integration of approved AI tools, such as Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) for Chest X-rays, into Standard Operating Procedures and Pre-Migration Health Activities. This includes providing technical support for testing and validating AI models for medical classification, diagnosis, and operational quality control, as well as assisting in the review of Large Language Model (LLM) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools. The role involves preparing validation protocols for LLM outputs, monitoring bias and safety in accordance with WHO and IOM standards, and participating in responsible AI practices, including privacy reviews and documentation. The associate will integrate AI services into MHD IT workflows and infrastructure, such as medical record systems, and contribute to creating and updating analytics and visualization materials for HAP statistics and performance using tools like Power BI. Furthermore, the position entails assisting with AI-in-HAP initiatives, supporting donor updates, providing inputs to global workstreams, and participating in training activities for clinical and data staff on AI/CAD and LLM use, fostering local super-user capacity. Collaboration with Teleradiology, the AI Work Group, MHI teams, and ICT is essential.
Work Experience
Candidates must have proven experience with Large Language Models (LLM)/Natural Language Processing (NLP), computer vision, or time-series analysis. Demonstrated experience in managing and processing large, complex databases is also required. Prior experience with Microsoft Synapse or Fabric data analytics platforms is considered an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in data science and ML frameworks. Knowledge of MLOps and BI tools (e.g., Power BI). Experience with programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R. Desirable background in open-source or commercial AI technology stacks (e.g., BioGPT, ClinicalBERT, Azure Health AI Actions, MS Copilot Studio). Background in global health and migration is an advantage.
