Information Management Assistant (data And Research)
Organizational Context
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Lebanon operates a Data and Research Unit (DRU) that leads primary data collection and analysis, notably through the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). The DRU produces annual reports, supports other IOM programs with data needs, and conducts assessments to understand migration patterns and inform policy. This role supports the DRU's information management functions, contributing to data-driven responses, particularly in crisis contexts.
Job Purpose
The Information Management Assistant (Data and Research) is responsible for implementing information management functions within IOM Lebanon's Data and Research Unit (DRU). This role supports the DRU's primary data collection and analysis activities, including the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), and contributes to understanding migration patterns. The position involves assisting in database and tool development, data quality monitoring, cleaning, and analysis, as well as supporting the production of analytical products and reports. The role collaborates with relevant units and contributes to informing mission-level policy, advocacy, and response planning, especially in the context of displacement triggered by conflict.
Responsibilities
Provide information management support for data collection and research activities, adhering to IOM data protection principles. Assist in developing and maintaining IOM databases and data collection/analysis tools. Support training and capacity building for staff and partners, contributing to training materials and SOPs. Monitor data quality during collection and manage data encoding, storage, and processing. Clean primary and secondary data for analysis and report production. Assist in data analysis and prepare analytical tools, including dashboards for data visualization. Draft and produce analytical products aligned with IOM reporting standards. Create operational and strategic maps for planning and monitoring, integrating outputs with global platforms. Participate in the Information Management Working Group. Perform any other assigned duties.
Work Experience
Experience in information management, preferably in Lebanon. Experience with database management and GIS mapping. Proven experience in data collection design, data management, data cleaning, and using advanced data packages like KOBO. Experience working with vulnerable groups (migrants, refugees, IDPs, trafficking victims) is beneficial. Prior experience with international humanitarian organizations in a multicultural setting is an advantage. Experience in analysis, reporting, and data governance principles is also desirable.
Skills
Ability to organize information flow. Advanced computer skills including SQL database systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), ARC GIS, Power BI, and Google Earth. Knowledge of KoBo, Open Data Kit (ODK) applications, and PDAs. Proficiency in analytical and reporting tools (e.g., programming scripts, Power BI, ArcGIS, MS Reporting Services, Excel VBA). Good knowledge of Lebanon's geography and culture. Familiarity with mobile data collection technologies and GPS is an advantage.
