Senior Investment Officer, Co-Terminus
Organizational Context
IFAD is an international financial institution and a UN specialized agency dedicated to eradicating rural poverty and hunger by investing in rural people. The Private Sector Operations Division (PSD) originates, structures, delivers, and manages IFAD's private sector investments (Non-Sovereign Operations - NSOs). The advertised position is co-terminus, contingent on project funding, with a maximum duration of seven years.
Job Purpose
To provide expert technical advice and strategic guidance at the corporate level for IFAD's private sector investments, with a focus on the Agri-Business Capital Fund (ABC Fund) and related activities. The role involves originating, structuring, monitoring, and managing NSOs, integrating private sector perspectives into country strategies, and contributing to partnerships, knowledge management, and resource mobilization.
Responsibilities
Provide senior technical advice in private sector investment, including screening, structuring, and delivery of NSOs; support the delivery of PSD's work plan; enhance knowledge management on private sector investments; build partnerships and mobilize resources with DFIs, impact investors, and corporate partners; contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of NSOs; and potentially supervise junior staff or consultants.
Work Experience
At least eight years of progressively responsible experience in structuring and managing rural finance and agriculture private sector investments in developing countries, including private equity experience. At least two of these years must be at the international level. Experience as a non-executive board member or investment committee member in an impact fund is a plus.
Skills
Expertise in assessing private sector investment proposals, transaction review, due diligence, and financial/investment decisions using regular and blended finance. Proven expertise in deploying financial instruments. Authoritative expertise in private sector investments applied to rural finance and agriculture in emerging markets, with experience in private equity and in Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific regions being an asset. Strong analytical and drafting skills. Excellent communication, adaptability, corporate approach, interpersonal, synthesis, verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of evidence-based policy formulation.
