Communication Specialist (Leadership Communications)
Organizational Context
IFAD is an international financial institution and UN specialized agency dedicated to eradicating rural poverty and hunger by investing in rural people. The Communications Division leads IFAD's global communications and public advocacy, enhancing visibility and reputation, and expanding media and digital presence.
Job Purpose
To conceptualize, propose, and implement strategic communication approaches that enhance IFAD's visibility and influence, strengthen its brand, build partnerships, and promote awareness of its mandate, contributing to both internal and external communications through high-quality content across multiple platforms.
Responsibilities
Contributes to communications strategies and content production across various platforms (written, visual, audio, digital); supports media outreach, digital storytelling, and editorial content. Contributes to corporate planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of communication initiatives. Manages projects and resources, including people and materials. Develops and disseminates external communication products supporting senior IFAD positioning, including speeches, statements, and op-eds for the President and Vice President. Develops strategic messaging around IFAD's brand and comparative advantage. Builds and maintains a network of contacts, guides leadership on communication platforms, and coordinates/revises consultant work. Pilots and evaluates new technologies, including AI, for content production and workflow management.
Work Experience
At least five (5) years of practical professional experience in communications and public information or journalism, including at least five (5) years as a writer drafting high-quality materials such as speeches. Thorough knowledge of international political, economic, and social affairs, and the UN is an asset. Proven expertise in researching, writing, and editing speeches, talking points, and other communications for senior international figures. Strong understanding of development, multilateral organizations, and global thematic issues relevant to IFAD's mandate. Knowledge of research practices, reputational risk evaluation, strategic positioning, and audience-focused messaging.
