Organizational Context
This position is in the Aeronautical Meteorology/Environment section within the ICAO Eastern and Southern Africa (ESAF) Regional Office. The section works to limit aviation's environmental impact, focusing on noise, air quality, and climate. It supports the implementation of global environmental goals like Carbon Neutral Growth (CNG2020) and net-zero emissions by 2050 through measures such as sustainable alternative fuels (SAF) and market-based measures (MBMs). The internship specifically supports regional environmental protection and climate change objectives, with an emphasis on aviation decarbonisation and cleaner energy transition.
Job Purpose
The internship aims to support the implementation of ICAO's environmental protection and climate change objectives in the ESAF Region, focusing on aviation decarbonisation and cleaner energy transition. The intern will contribute to regional initiatives for reducing aviation emissions, strengthening State capacity, and promoting sustainable aviation solutions.
Responsibilities
Support regional Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) activities, including policy development and awareness initiatives. Assist with developing/updating State Action Plans (SAPs) for CO₂ emissions reduction. Support the implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). Contribute to work on emerging cleaner aviation energy solutions (e.g., hydrogen, electric). Support environmental research, best practice dissemination, and partnerships. Assist in organizing workshops, preparing technical documents, and coordinating with stakeholders. Support the development of outreach and communication materials.

No prior work experience is required. Academic training, education, advanced coursework, or relevant skills are beneficial.
