Internship - Air Traffic Management and Search and Rescue, ESAF
Organizational Context
This position is within the Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Search and Rescue (SAR) section of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) Regional Office. The section supports and monitors regional air navigation services and operational initiatives, assisting Member States with SARPs, air navigation plans, ATM modernization, contingency planning, and SAR coordination.
Job Purpose
The internship aims to support the section's technical, analytical, and coordination workload related to ATM and SAR implementation programs. The intern will gain practical experience in international civil aviation processes and contribute to ICAO's strategic goals for air navigation capacity and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Assist in preparing technical briefs, reports, and presentations on ATM, AIM, and SAR. Support the compilation, maintenance, and analysis of operational data. Monitor and follow up on actions from regional meetings. Coordinate and track regional SAR activities. Review SAR contingency plans and documentation. Analyze SAR system implementation gaps. Track action items and progress from planning groups. Draft meeting summaries and reports. Maintain electronic records and databases. Collect and analyze operational and safety data. Prepare progress reports and performance monitoring documentation. Engage with stakeholders to facilitate program implementation.
Work Experience
No prior work experience is required. Academic training, education, advanced coursework, or relevant skills are beneficial.
Skills
Planning and Organizing, Communication, Teamwork, Client Orientation. Proficiency in data analysis, report writing, and stakeholder engagement is expected.
