Safeguards Information Assistant (IFC)
Organizational Context
The Department of Safeguards functions as the IAEA's global nuclear inspectorate, dedicated to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. It develops and implements safeguards to ensure no diversion of declared nuclear material and no undeclared nuclear activities. This role is situated within the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Analysis Section of the Division of Information Management.
Job Purpose
The Safeguards Information Assistant is responsible for collecting, processing, and maintaining accurate data related to State declarations and safeguards verification. This role involves preparing standardized evaluation reports, identifying and resolving data discrepancies to ensure data integrity, and distributing analytical reports to departmental partners. The position also contributes to the enhancement of information systems and work processes through continuous feedback and suggestions for improvement, supporting the overall mission of the Department of Safeguards.
Responsibilities
Collect and process diverse data for safeguards verification, State declarations, and environmental sampling, ensuring accurate entry into databases and following up on discrepancies. Maintain electronic files within the Integrated Safeguards Environment for data evaluation reports supporting key documents like the Safeguards Implementation Report. Monitor data flow and work processes to ensure the integrity of information repositories. Track deadlines and remind staff to ensure timely preparation of datasets and delivery of standard products. Assist in the development of information systems by providing feedback and suggesting improvements, and support the maintenance of digital portals and web pages. Provide assistance to evaluators in drafting reports, support scientific meetings with administrative and documentation tasks, and perform non-routine data processing for ad hoc analysis requests.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in data processing, data quality control, or similar tasks is required. Experience in information analysis and report preparation is also necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in data management, information analysis, and reporting. Strong analytical thinking, planning and organizing abilities. Excellent communication and client orientation skills. Resilience and the ability to maintain accuracy under pressure. Basic knowledge of safeguards concepts and nuclear fuel cycle facilities is desirable.
