Internship - Programmatic Support and Technical Coordination for Research Reactor Safety Events

Organizational Context

The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) leads the IAEA's nuclear safety and security programme, protecting people and the environment from radiation. The Division of Nuclear Installation Safety (NSNI) aims to maintain high safety standards for nuclear installations globally, establishing and applying safety standards through various means, including technical cooperation and safety review services.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to support nuclear safety officers in implementing a coordinated research project focused on experimental designs for fuels and materials testing in research reactors. The role will also contribute to the organization and execution of technical meetings and workshops pertinent to research reactor safety, including the International Meeting on the Application of the Code of Conduct on the Safety of Research Reactors. Additionally, the intern will assist in preparing essential statistics, presentations, and reports to further the section's objectives and disseminate key findings.

Responsibilities

The intern will provide support for a coordinated research project on "Design of Experiments for Fuels and Materials Testing in Research Reactors," which includes reviewing research proposals and assisting in the preparation and conduct of a research coordination meeting. Responsibilities also extend to supporting the preparation and delivery of a Training Workshop for Reviewers of Integrated Safety Assessment of Research Reactor Missions, including developing training materials. Furthermore, the intern will aid in organizing and conducting the International Meeting on the Application of the Code of Conduct on the Safety of Research Reactors and assist in gathering and analyzing data for information reports on research reactor safety issues and trends.

Work Experience
