Consultant - Instructional Design Specialist
Organizational Context
The Department of Safeguards serves as the IAEA's global nuclear inspectorate, dedicated to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. Within this department, the Division of Concepts and Planning (SGCP) focuses on developing safeguards policies, approaches, and training, strategic planning, and coordinating research and development activities to ensure the peaceful use of nuclear materials.
Job Purpose
The consultant will be responsible for designing and developing training courses, primarily utilizing eLearning authoring tools. This involves collaborating closely with Subject Matter Experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of training content. The design and development process will be grounded in established learning theories and current best practices within the field of instructional design, aiming to create effective and engaging learning experiences for IAEA staff.
Responsibilities
The role involves supporting the design and development of specialized safeguards technical training modules for an advanced induction program. Key duties include collecting and analyzing reference materials, consulting with subject matter experts, and documenting findings to guide course creation. The consultant will review and revise design plans, learning objectives, assessments, and blended learning strategies. Responsibilities extend to developing eLearning modules, in-person components, facilitator guides, learner materials, and interactive resources. Quality assurance, incorporating feedback, and finalizing course materials through testing and refinement are crucial. The consultant will also contribute to the project workplan and ensure timely delivery of outputs, adhering to quality standards and accessibility requirements.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in instructional design, learning and development, or training development is necessary. Proven experience in designing and developing instructor-led, eLearning, and blended learning programs, including the application of structured instructional design approaches, is essential.
Skills
Proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Articulate 360). Experience applying structured instructional design approaches. Experience working with subject matter experts. Excellent written and spoken English. Fluency in other IAEA official languages is an asset.
