Organizational Context
The Department of Safeguards is the IAEA's global nuclear inspectorate, dedicated to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. It develops and implements safeguards to ensure nuclear material is used peacefully and no undeclared activities occur. This role sits within the Office of Information and Communication Systems (SGIS), which provides essential ICT services to support the Department's mandate.
Job Purpose
The Team Leader (Application Maintenance Team) is responsible for managing a technical team that builds and maintains complex software products crucial for the Department of Safeguards' business processes. This role involves coordinating and supervising the team to make key decisions in software engineering, application security, and software architecture. The objective is to ensure that implemented solutions effectively support long-term business goals and operational effectiveness, while upholding the highest security and quality standards. The Team Leader also contributes to the Divisional Enterprise Architecture Group, ensuring technology implementations align with strategic business objectives.
Responsibilities
The Team Leader plays a critical role in the development and delivery of complex software products that enhance the operational effectiveness of the Department of Safeguards. This includes leading a team of software developers, acting as technical leads for product delivery, and ensuring timely and collaborative solutions using agile practices. Responsibilities also encompass ensuring ICT products meet standards for application security, architecture, and usability. The Team Leader will drive the Divisional Enterprise Architecture Group, maintaining architecture to align with business strategy. Furthermore, they will coach and mentor team members, manage skills development and recruitment, promote teamwork, and define performance criteria. Leading improvements in secure software development, systems engineering, and continuous deployment processes is also a key function.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of relevant ICT experience with increasing responsibilities is required, including at least two years managing and coaching staff in a multicultural setting. Experience in designing and leading the implementation of large service-based architectures, full-stack development, and overseeing application maintenance is essential.
Skills
Expertise in Application Architecture, Information Security, Software Development best practices, and Systems Engineering. Proficiency in managing software development lifecycles, implementing security controls, and utilizing DevOps practices. Strong communication, client orientation, and commitment to continuous process improvement are also key.
