Internship - Fourth FAO/IAEA International Symposium on Area-wide Management of Insect Pests
Organizational Context
The Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications implements the IAEA's Major Programme 2, focusing on nuclear techniques for development and environmental protection. It supports Member States in meeting basic human needs and managing environments using these techniques. The Joint FAO/IAEA Centre assists Member States in improving food security and sustainable agriculture through nuclear technologies, with the Insect Pest Control Section developing environmentally friendly pest management solutions.
Job Purpose
The intern will support the Insect Pest Control Section in organizing the Fourth FAO/IAEA International Symposium on Area-wide Management of Insect Pests. This involves reviewing and managing abstracts using INDICO, assisting with the formatting and organization of the book of abstracts, and liaising with authors and reviewers. Additionally, the intern will contribute to the preparation of a textbook derived from the symposium, coordinating with authors and editors, and formatting chapters according to publisher guidelines. The role may also include other editing tasks within the Section and its laboratories, providing valuable practical experience in event and publication management.
Responsibilities
Communicate with symposium participants regarding abstract submissions, acceptances, grant applications, presentations, and general inquiries. Assist in reviewing abstracts, establishing and maintaining an abstract database in INDICO, and formatting the book of abstracts. Support the Programme Committee in organizing symposium sessions and assist in compiling, editing, and formatting contributed papers. Format all chapters of the symposium book meticulously according to the external publisher's guidelines. Coordinate the editing and review process by liaising effectively with authors, internal editors, and external reviewers.
Work Experience
Experience in using data management systems is required. Additionally, experience in editing and formatting technical documents is desirable. Proficiency in standard computer applications for word processing and data analysis is essential.
Skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required. Proficiency in correspondence and written communication is necessary. Experience with data management systems and standard office software is expected.
