Organizational Context
The Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) aims to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power globally. It supports Member States in enhancing nuclear power plant performance, fuel cycle management, and waste management. The Division of Nuclear Power, including the Nuclear Power Engineering Section (NPES), provides crucial engineering, technological, and capacity-building support for nuclear power programmes worldwide.
Job Purpose
As a manager and team leader within the Division of Nuclear Power, the Section Head (Nuclear Power Engineering) is responsible for planning, initiating, implementing, guiding, coordinating, and supervising the IAEA's programme activities. This role focuses on providing essential nuclear power engineering support for national nuclear power programmes and overseeing the management aspects related to the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, ensuring alignment with Member States' needs and IAEA standards.
Responsibilities
The Section Head will plan, manage, coordinate, and supervise the Section's activities, including technical review services and ensuring Member States' compliance with IAEA standards. Key responsibilities involve supporting operational excellence in nuclear facilities, focusing on plant life management, long-term operation, advanced instrumentation and control, maintenance optimization, component reliability, and fostering innovations like AI and robotics. The role also includes guiding new countries embarking on nuclear power, supporting infrastructure development, organizing workshops, and providing advisory services in project management, construction, commissioning, management systems, supply chain, quality management, and expansion strategies. Coordination of technical cooperation projects, scientific meetings, publications, and international collaborations are also integral.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in nuclear power engineering is required, with over 5 years of international experience being desirable. Demonstrated experience in project management, including design, monitoring, and implementation, as well as human and financial resource management, is essential.
Skills
Key skills include planning and organizing, effective communication, achieving results, teamwork, judgment and decision-making, and leadership and supervision. Expertise in nuclear engineering, construction of nuclear power plants, and nuclear power plant life cycle management is also required.
