Internship - Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre

The IAEA Marine Environment Laboratories (NAML), comprising three distinct labs, utilize nuclear and isotopic techniques to address marine environmental challenges. The Radioecology Laboratory, specifically, focuses on coastal and marine ecological issues including ocean acidification, carbon cycling, and seafood safety, often within climate change contexts. This laboratory hosts the Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the activities of the Ocean Acidification International Coordination Centre (OA-ICC) at the IAEA's Radioecology Laboratory in Monaco. The intern will assist in organizing and implementing events, updating online resources, and drafting communication materials. A key aspect involves supporting the Secretariat of the Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON), including attending meetings, contributing to communication efforts, and assisting with UN Ocean Decade programmes. The role also includes supporting GOA-ON regional hubs and preparing for major international symposia on ocean science.
Responsibilities
The intern will contribute to the OA-ICC's annual work plan by organizing and facilitating expert meetings, capacity-building initiatives, and outreach activities. Responsibilities include assisting with OA-ICC communication efforts by preparing reports, web stories, newsletters, and social media content. Maintaining and updating the OA-ICC's online news stream and databases is also required. Furthermore, the intern will support the Secretariat of the Global Ocean Acidification Observing Network (GOA-ON), explore potential funding sources for OA-ICC programmes, and develop a survey to collect baseline data for key performance indicators.
Work Experience
While specific years of experience are not detailed, the role requires a university degree and a good background in relevant scientific fields. The ability to coordinate and manage projects effectively, coupled with strong teamwork skills in a multicultural environment, is essential. Project management experience is beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential. Fluency in any other official IAEA language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, Russian) is an asset. Candidates must be at least 20 years old, have completed at least three years of university studies towards a first degree, and not have previously participated in the IAEA internship programme. Two letters of recommendation are required.
