Internship - Visualization and statistical analysis of nuclear reaction data

The Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences focuses on research and development in nuclear sciences, including nuclear and atomic data. The Nuclear Data Section (NDS) specifically generates and maintains high-quality nuclear and atomic databases, disseminating them globally via its website.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to support the Nuclear Data Section (NDS) in compiling and evaluating charged-particle induced reaction cross sections. The intern will gain practical experience in nuclear data management and analysis, contributing to the NDS's mission of providing essential nuclear and atomic databases. This role offers exposure to the IAEA's work in nuclear sciences and its application in Member States' development programs, enhancing the intern's understanding of nuclear physics and data handling within an international scientific organization.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Nuclear Data Physicists, the intern will compile experimental charged-particle reaction cross sections into the EXFOR format. This includes updating existing EXFOR entries with new data. Additionally, the intern will be responsible for evaluating charged-particle induced radioisotope production cross sections, utilizing optimization/fitting tools, artificial intelligence/machine learning approaches, or nuclear model codes such as TALYS.

Work Experience

While not explicitly stated as a requirement, experience with isotope production cross section measurements and the EXFOR library is desirable. Experience in EXFOR compilation and programming skills are considered assets for this role.

Skills
