Organizational Context
The Department of Safeguards serves as the IAEA's global nuclear inspectorate, dedicated to preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. Job Purpose
The Safeguards Information Assistant (State Declarations) plays a crucial role in supporting the IAEA's in-field verification activities and the State evaluation process. Working under the supervision of the Section Head and in close collaboration with Safeguards Information Analysts, this role involves the collection, processing, quality control, review, and dissemination of State-declared information. The assistant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of declarations, communicating findings, and resolving issues related to reported data, thereby contributing to the overall integrity of the safeguards system.
Responsibilities
The Safeguards Information Assistant is responsible for processing State-declared information, including nuclear material accounting data and Additional Protocol declarations for assigned States. This involves receiving, uploading, and performing quality control checks on the data. The role requires reviewing and assessing this information to identify any discrepancies or issues, providing essential input to Safeguards Information Analysts. Additionally, the assistant will draft correspondence to States regarding the technical correctness and completeness of their declarations and assist in resolving any arising issues. Collaboration with States and departmental colleagues on reporting and information processing tasks is key, as is supporting the development of training materials and contributing to the improvement of process methodologies and tools related to State Declarations.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant working experience is required, preferably gained in an international setting. Experience in preparing summaries and reports is also necessary.
Skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database usage. Strong analytical thinking, planning and organizing abilities. Excellent communication and client orientation skills. Basic understanding of the Safeguards System and related nuclear technology and information systems is desirable.
