Technical Lead (Research Reactor Capacity Building)
Organizational Context
The Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology supports Member States in developing safe and effective approaches for research reactors, nuclear fuel cycle, waste management, and environmental remediation. The Research Reactor Section specifically assists Member States throughout the research reactor lifecycle, from initial planning and infrastructure development to operation, ageing management, and decommissioning, while also promoting access to research reactors for capacity building.
Job Purpose
The Technical Lead (Research Reactor Capacity Building) manages projects focused on assisting IAEA Member States in planning and constructing new research reactors and assessing their national infrastructure. This role also oversees initiatives to promote and facilitate access to research reactors for nuclear capacity building. Additionally, the Technical Lead provides support for research reactor operation and fuel cycle activities as needed and coordinates the development of technical reports, guidance, and best practice documents in this specialized area.
Responsibilities
Organize and conduct scientific meetings, workshops, and conferences related to planning and building new research reactors, including the development of supporting national infrastructure and capacity building. Conduct peer review missions for nuclear infrastructure development in Member States. Prepare technical documents and reports on planning, building new research reactors, national infrastructure development, and capacity building. Provide technical assistance to Member States through IAEA Technical Cooperation projects. Liaise with Permanent Missions, organizations, and NGOs on project planning, funding, and implementation. Collaborate with internal IAEA sections, divisions, international organizations, and Member States on areas of mutual interest.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience is required, with at least 2 years at the international level. Experience should focus on new research reactor projects, assessment and development of supporting infrastructure, and nuclear capacity building using research reactors. Experience in research reactor utilization, strategic planning, operation, maintenance, modernization, refurbishment, and fuel technology is considered an asset.

Project management, expertise in research reactor infrastructure and projects, research reactor operation and maintenance, research reactor utilization, capacity building, technical reporting, and excellent communication skills in English.
