Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide essential technical expertise for various communications, including reports, speeches, and articles. The role involves adapting scientific content to suit different audiences, venues, and messages, thereby raising awareness among both scientific and general audiences about the nuclear techniques developed within the department. The consultant will play a key role in effectively disseminating information about the department's work and its applications, ensuring that complex scientific information is presented in an accessible and engaging manner to a diverse range of stakeholders.
Responsibilities
The consultant will draft speeches for the Deputy Director General and prepare departmental reports and other communications, translating scientific inputs from expert staff into clear, audience-appropriate content. This includes developing promotional materials for research and development in nuclear technologies, tailored for specific events like the General Conference. Responsibilities also encompass maintaining the departmental website and updating relevant web pages on the external site, in close coordination with the Office of Public Information and Communication, ensuring adherence to IAEA style and requirements. Collaboration with the Office of Public Information and Communication on promotional materials and exhibitions to highlight departmental achievements is also a key function.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in communication and technical writing is required, with a preference for strong international experience. Experience in communicating science and technology subjects is also desirable.
Skills
Excellent oral and written English communication skills are essential. Additional competencies include public information and communication, correspondence and written communication, diplomacy, understanding of political sensitivities, and public relations. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages is an asset.
