Job Purpose
The Water Technical Officer will manage and implement extrabudgetary projects aimed at enhancing analytical capacity in Member States. This involves providing expert technical advice on establishing and upgrading water analysis laboratories, guiding training and capacity-building initiatives for laboratory operations, and collaborating with counterparts to integrate water data into policy and governance frameworks. The role contributes to the IAEA's mission of supporting sustainable water resource management through the application of isotope hydrology.
Responsibilities
The Water Technical Officer is responsible for planning, managing, and implementing extrabudgetary projects focused on laboratory development. This includes providing technical guidance on various analytical techniques for determining dissolved elements and isotopes in water. The role involves writing progress reports, coordinating with the Department of Technical Cooperation, and liaising with external counterparts to meet project needs. Additionally, the officer will plan, organize, and participate in seminars, workshops, expert missions, and training courses, and contribute to reports for senior management and governing bodies.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of practical experience is required in applying analytical techniques for water analysis. Substantial experience in developing and implementing laboratory research projects, including proficiency testing and accreditation, is essential. Broad knowledge of natural resource and water resource management, with a strong background in nuclear techniques for water resources, is also needed.
