Organizational Context
The Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) aims to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power globally. It supports Member States in improving nuclear power plants, fuel cycles, and waste management, while catalysing innovation and developing national energy planning capabilities. The Division of Nuclear Power, including the INPRO Section, provides essential engineering, technological, and management support.
Job Purpose
As a manager and team leader reporting to the Division Director, the Section Head is responsible for planning, initiating, implementing, guiding, coordinating, and supervising the IAEA's programme activities related to the International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles (INPRO). This role involves leading the development of global nuclear energy scenarios, coordinating research on innovative technologies and institutional arrangements, and providing technical guidance to Member States for sustainable nuclear energy strategies.
Responsibilities
The Section Head will plan, develop, manage, and supervise the INPRO Section's activities, reporting on programmatic progress to the INPRO Steering Committee and Deputy Director General. Key duties include leading the development of global and regional nuclear energy scenarios for sustainable development, coordinating research on innovative nuclear technologies and institutional arrangements, and providing technical input for Member States' long-range sustainable nuclear energy strategies using the INPRO Methodology. The role also involves organizing technical meetings, preparing publications, coordinating international collaborative projects, representing the IAEA, and liaising with other divisions and international organizations.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of relevant working experience in innovative nuclear technology development or R&D at a programmatic level is required, with at least five years in a senior managerial position within international projects. Demonstrated experience in international multidisciplinary environments and project management, including resource management, is also necessary.
