FAO Oman executes programmes and initiatives to foster sustainable agricultural development, food security, and resilient food systems. The Communication Assistant will enhance the visibility and outreach of FAO's work in Oman, ensuring communication aligns with corporate standards and country office objectives. This role involves coordination with regional and headquarters colleagues.
Job Purpose
The Communication Assistant will provide essential support for FAO Oman's communication efforts, focusing on developing and disseminating digital and social media content to enhance the visibility of FAO programmes and their results. This role is crucial for effective stakeholder outreach, ensuring that key messages about FAO's work in Oman reach relevant audiences. The position aims to strengthen the overall communication strategy, contributing to a better understanding and appreciation of FAO's contributions to sustainable agriculture, food security, and resilient food systems within the country. The assistant will play a key part in communicating programme achievements and fostering engagement.
Responsibilities
The Communication Assistant will support the implementation of FAO Oman’s communication activities and workplans. Responsibilities include collecting and compiling information, photographs, videos, and success stories from projects. The role involves assisting in drafting, editing, and adapting various communication products such as news items, briefs, presentations, newsletters, infographics, and web content. The assistant will manage FAO Oman’s social media platforms by preparing and scheduling content, visuals, and monthly calendars, and monitoring engagement. They will also help prepare communication materials in English and Arabic for outreach to government counterparts and local stakeholders. Support will be provided for communication and visibility activities related to partnerships, awareness campaigns, workshops, and events. The incumbent will upload materials to the Corporate Publication Workflow System, attend coordination meetings, participate in events for content collection, and liaise with communication focal points to ensure accuracy and adherence to FAO corporate communication standards, branding, and guidelines.
Work Experience
Two years of relevant experience in communications, journalism, public relations, media, or digital communications is required. Experience in preparing and editing communication materials for diverse audiences and channels is necessary. Familiarity with communication and social media platforms is expected.
Skills
Key skills include strong communication abilities, teamwork, and building effective relationships. The role requires knowledge sharing and a commitment to continuous improvement. Essential technical skills involve experience in preparing and editing communication materials for various channels, social media content creation, and digital communications. Proficiency in preparing visual and multimedia content, including basic photography, video, and infographics, is important. Good writing and editing skills in both English and Arabic are necessary, along with familiarity with communication and social media platforms and tools. Experience working with government institutions, development partners, or international organizations is considered an asset.
