Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is the specialized agency leading international efforts to eradicate hunger. Job Purpose
The Programme Assistant plays a key role in coordinating program and project support services for the FAO Representation in Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou. This position involves a wide range of activities related to program planning and budgeting, requiring in-depth analysis and interpretation of policies, procedures, and practices. The incumbent provides guidance to management and staff on procedural matters, supervises and trains program support staff, and fosters knowledge sharing within the office. The role is crucial for the efficient delivery of program and project activities, directly contributing to the office's mandate.
Responsibilities
Coordinate the establishment, presentation, review, and monitoring of the division/office/center budget, including tracking and reporting on its execution. Review and analyze periodic budget reports. Gather and synthesize data from organizational and office databases to support program, project, or activity analysis and management reporting. Monitor projects and maintain reference materials, documentation, data, and information related to programming. Track human resource planning and expenditures, non-staff resource utilization, communication and publication plans, IT plans, and travel programs. Sort incoming correspondence to identify priority issues and draft related correspondence. Contribute to strengthening and sharing knowledge by training staff and informing managers about administrative, budgetary, planning, programming, and financial procedures. Review existing processes and recommend improvements for project and program administration. Perform other tasks as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in administrative, financial, planning, programming, and budgeting activities is required. Experience with UN field program management procedures and guidelines is desirable.
