Global Initiative Facilitator
Organizational Context
TERRA (Together for the Expansion of Resilient and Restorative Agroforestry and Agroecology) is a Plan to Accelerate Solutions (PAS) for COP 30's Action Agenda, aiming to scale up agroecology and agroforestry systems. Its goals include restoring biodiversity, enhancing climate adaptation and mitigation, strengthening food security, and generating rural incomes, with a focus on family farmers and indigenous communities. PAS TERRA operates through five acceleration levers and fosters international policy dialogues. It is led by a steering committee including Brazil's Ministry of Agrarian Development, FAO/FFF, IFAD, Agroecology Coalition, The Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT, and NOW Partners Foundation.
Job Purpose
The Global Initiative Facilitator will provide global-level support for the TERRA initiative, ensuring strategic alignment among founding members, partners, and stakeholders. This role serves as the primary focal point for global coordination, fostering dialogue, collaboration, and consensus-building. The Facilitator will advance agendas related to productive forests, agroecology, restoration, and sustainable rural development through policy, technical, and operational processes. Additionally, the Facilitator will support governance, monitoring, evaluation, and learning processes, generating strategic information for decision-making and adaptive management. Regular reports will be provided to the six founding members of PAS TERRA on implementation progress, challenges, and recommendations for global consolidation.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include supporting the implementation and coordination of TERRA priorities, facilitating peer-to-peer learning, and managing policy, technical, and operational processes under Steering Committee (SC) supervision. This involves developing and monitoring annual work plans and budgets, tracking progress and results, and providing regular updates to the SC and partners. The Facilitator will also support TERRA's resource mobilization strategy, identify partnership opportunities, and engage with potential donors. Strengthening national and international partnerships and managing potential conflicts of interest are crucial. The role includes planning and facilitating SC and partner meetings, supporting TERRA's representation in strategic forums, drafting documents for SC approval, and organizing public events and outreach efforts. Reporting involves elaborating monitoring reports on activities, work plans, and budgets, as well as general reports to guide SC decision-making on resource mobilization and partnership opportunities. Compliance with FAO standards and guidelines for communications and reporting is mandatory.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience is required in designing, coordinating, and implementing programs related to sustainable rural development, agroecology, productive forests, landscape restoration, climate action, biodiversity conservation, or bioeconomy.
Skills
Essential skills include experience in building strategic partnerships, mobilizing financial and technical resources, and results-based management, strategic planning, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL). Experience in multi-stakeholder facilitation and coordination with diverse entities (government, donors, producer organizations, civil society, research institutions) is crucial. Proven experience in facilitating policy dialogue and multi-sectoral governance processes at national, regional, and international levels is necessary. Strong knowledge of policies and development frameworks related to agroecology, productive forests, sustainable food systems, climate change, and biodiversity conservation is required. Excellent analytical, writing, and reporting skills are essential. Knowledge of French, Spanish, German, or Mandarin is an asset. Availability for fieldwork and travel is also required.
