Organizational Context
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a UN specialized agency dedicated to achieving food security globally. Working in over 130 countries, FAO supports sustainable agri-food systems transformation. In Sri Lanka, FAO is implementing a US Macro Grant project to enhance the resilience of vulnerable farming communities against climate-related shocks like cyclones and El Niño. The project targets smallholder paddy and vegetable farmers in specific districts, providing essential inputs, promoting climate-resilient practices, and strengthening anticipatory action systems to safeguard production and livelihoods.
Job Purpose
The Senior Project Coordinator will provide essential coordination, administrative, operational, and technical support for the efficient and effective implementation of FAO's US Macro Grant project in Sri Lanka. Working under the Assistant FAO Representative (Programme) and in coordination with the Project Management Specialist, the incumbent will facilitate project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. This role involves close collaboration with government counterparts, implementing partners, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure project activities align with FAO regulations, donor requirements, and national policies, ultimately contributing to the project's successful achievement of its objectives.
Responsibilities
The Senior Project Coordinator will oversee programme coordination and implementation by liaising with government institutions, partners, and consultants to ensure timely delivery of project interventions according to work plans and budgets. Responsibilities include maintaining an implementation tracker, facilitating stakeholder communication, and supporting the organization of training and events. The role involves providing technical and operational support, coordinating the distribution of project inputs, managing aspects of the digital voucher scheme, and assisting in problem-solving for smooth implementation. Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting are key, requiring data collection, compilation, and support for progress reports and assessments. Administrative and financial coordination includes supporting procurement, logistics, and budget monitoring. The incumbent will also engage with stakeholders, ensure compliance with regulations, and support audits and evaluations.
Work Experience
A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in programme or project coordination is necessary. This experience should align with the educational background in fields such as Agriculture, Public or Business Administration, or Social Sciences.
Skills
The role requires strong coordination and stakeholder engagement skills, coupled with excellent communication and reporting abilities in English. Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and the capacity to work independently in a results-oriented environment are essential. Core competencies include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
