Job Purpose
The Field Project Assistant will coordinate and support the on-ground implementation of project activities within assigned districts in Sri Lanka. This role is crucial for ensuring effective planning, monitoring, and reporting of project interventions, particularly those targeting smallholder farmers affected by climate change. The assistant will facilitate collaboration with government bodies, local authorities, and community organizations to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of project outputs, aligning with FAO's standards and donor requirements, and contributing to enhanced food security and livelihoods.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Lead Technical Officer and Assistant FAOR (Programme), the Field Project Assistant will support project planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting in assigned districts. Key duties include facilitating project interventions for paddy and vegetable farmers, coordinating the distribution of agricultural inputs, and supporting the IDEA digital voucher system. The role involves providing technical guidance to farmers on climate-resilient practices, promoting Other Field Crop cultivation and livelihood diversification, and organizing farmer training sessions. The assistant will liaise with district authorities and stakeholders, monitor field activities, maintain accurate records, collect and report field data, and assist in data collection for assessments. Contributions to project reports, success stories, and lessons learned are also expected, alongside performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in programme/project/field coordination is required. This experience should align with the responsibilities of supporting project implementation and stakeholder engagement in agricultural or rural development contexts.
